Kharge Blames PM Modi and Vaishnaw for Railway Safety Lapses

New Delhi, 19th July. Following the tragic derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda, which resulted in two fatalities and numerous injuries, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

In a statement released on social media, Kharge demanded that they take direct responsibility for the significant lapses affecting Indian Railways.

Kharge condemned the Modi government for what he described as a systematic compromise of rail safety. He cited a previous incident where 11 people died when a goods train collided with the Sealdah–Agartala Kanchanjunga Express.

According to Kharge, the Commissioner of Railway Safety had warned that the accident was “waiting to happen,” attributing it to failures in automatic signals, management lapses, and the lack of essential safety equipment like walkie-talkies for the loco pilot and train manager.

“PM Narendra Modi and his Railway Minister, who are quick to seek self-publicity, must take direct responsibility for these massive lapses,” Kharge stated.

He further called for the immediate installation of the Kavach anti-collision system on all railway routes across India to bolster safety measures and prevent future accidents.
