K’taka Deputy Chief Minister: There may be a connection between the explosion in Mangaluru and the blast at the Rameshwaram cafe

GG News Bureau

Bengaluru,  3rd March . On Saturday, March 2, DK Shivakumar, the Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, stated that there appeared to be a connection between the explosion that occurred earlier this week at Bengaluru’s Rameshwaram Cafe and an explosion that occurred in Mangaluru in 2022. “Police officers claim that there appears to be a connection between this incident and the Mangaluru incident. “We can see a similarity, a link, a timer, and other things with the materials used (for explosions),” Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar told reporters, according to the news agency PTI.

According to Shivakumar, the police were given a fair opportunity to look into the incident at the Rameshwaram Cafe, and the state government was dedicated to conducting a fair investigation. “Bengalurians shouldn’t be concerned; the explosion was low-intensity and locally prepared, but it made a loud noise. The culprit wears a cap or specs, but his face is visible from every angle. He is seen from three perspectives. He has also been seen walking by cameras,” he continued.

As a show of solidarity, All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Chief Asaduddin Owaisi stopped by the cafe’s Hyderabad location on Saturday. Owaisi claimed that the explosion was an act of cowardice and an assault on Indian values in a post on X.

What was the Rameshwaram Cafe incident?

An improvised explosive device (IED) was found in a bag left by a male suspect, who is believed to be between the ages of 28 and 30, at the cafe on Friday afternoon, injuring at least ten people. Idli was ordered by the suspect at 11:38 a.m. local time. He placed the bag containing the IED at the cafe’s hand wash station six minutes later.

He left the cafe at 11.45 am, and the explosion happened at 12:56 pm. Authorities report that both the staff and patrons of the cafe were injured. Raghavendra Rao, a co-founder of the restaurant, stated on Saturday that the Karnataka and federal governments ought to make sure that similar occurrences don’t occur again.

“I would like to send my warm regards to those who suffered.” We are with them, their family, I want to say,” Rao said to reporters. He added that the cafe will reopen the following week.

The IS-sponsored explosion in Mangaluru

In Mangaluru, in November 2022, an IED that was being transported in an autorickshaw unintentionally exploded while it was inside a pressure cooker. According to investigators, the Islamic State was behind the explosion, and the IED was intended to be detonated at the Kadri Manjunatha temple.

Along with other people, the primary accused in this case sustained serious injuries in the explosion.
