Lakhimpur Kheri Incident: UP Governor Constitutes a Commission to Investigate the Case

Lucknow, 7th Oct. The Governor of Uttar Pradesh constituted a commission to investigate the Lakhimpur incident. Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, retired judge of Allahabad High Court, will preside over the inquiry commission.

A one-member inquiry commission has been constituted to probe the deaths of eight people, including four farmers, in Lakhimpur Kheri. The responsibility has been entrusted to a former judge of the Allahabad High Court who has been directed to complete the investigation within two months.

According to a statement issued by Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Avnish Awasthi on Thursday, “Notification has been issued for the formation of the commission. The commission has been given two months to investigate the matter. The matter will be probed by High Court Allahabad Judge (Retd) Pradeep Kumar Srivastava.

He said that in exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 (Act No. 60 of 1952), the Governor has appointed Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, Judge (Retd) of the Allahabad High Court as a single member of the Commission. .

“The Commission will complete the investigation within a period of two months from the date of issue of this notification. Any change in its tenure will be at the behest of the government.
