Patna, 29th Jan.
A day after a major political shift in Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), went to the Enforcement Directorate office in Patna for questioning in the land-for-jobs case.

Accompanying him was his daughter, Misha Bharti, who is also accused in the corruption case.

The case involves alleged irregularities during Yadav’s time as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009. It is alleged that Yadav and the other accused persuaded jobseekers to transfer land to Yadav family members at very low prices.

Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi (former Chief Minister), and daughter Misa are among the accused in the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating allegations of bribery, while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is looking into money laundering.

The RJD has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using government agencies to target political opponents.

RJD MP Manoj Jha stated that this is not an ED summons, but a BJP summons, and that they expect this to continue until 2024. He also questioned why they should be afraid.

At the ED office, Misha Bharti commented that anyone who is not with the BJP and refuses to switch sides receives this treatment. She added that her family has always cooperated with investigative agencies.

Yadav’s questioning comes after his former comrade Nitish Kumar’s sudden change of allegiance. The nine-time Chief Minister left the RJD and Congress to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) yesterday.

This is the fifth time he has switched sides in the past decade. In 2022, he left the NDA to form a new government with the RJD and Congress.
