Mumbai, 12th April: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, one of the most celebrated voices in Indian music history, passed away on Sunday at the age of 92, leaving behind an unparalleled musical legacy.
The veteran singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Saturday after suffering cardiac and respiratory complications. Sources said she had been unwell for several months and was brought to the hospital in critical condition, where she was admitted to the ICU.
Her son Anand confirmed the news on Sunday afternoon. The last rites will be conducted on Monday.
An Iconic Musical Journey
Born in 1933 into the illustrious Mangeshkar family, Asha Bhosle began her singing career at the age of nine. She recorded her first film song in 1943 and rose to prominence in the 1950s, eventually becoming one of the most sought-after playback singers in Indian cinema.
Her stature in Hindi film music was rivalled only by her elder sister, Lata Mangeshkar.
Over a career spanning decades, Asha Bhosle displayed remarkable versatility—transitioning from cabaret numbers to soulful ghazals, including her acclaimed work in films like Umrao Jaan.
