Lt Governor Accuses Delhi Government of Maligning Office in Court

New Delhi, 5th April.
The Delhi LG Secretariat has reached out to the Union home secretary regarding violations by the Delhi government and deliberate efforts to mislead courts in order to influence the justice system, according to officials at Raj Niwas on Thursday.

Officials stated that the Delhi government is trying to manipulate the justice system by submitting motivated and premeditated petitions and providing false affidavits.

On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government argued that courts are the last resort when officers fail to follow ministerial directives. The lieutenant governor has not taken action against these officers, the government claimed in a statement.

Despite repeated instructions from the concerned ministers, officers from the Centre do not comply, and the lieutenant governor does not respond to ministerial requests, the government added.

The principal secretary of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena’s office mentioned various cases in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court where the Delhi government allegedly violated rules in its interactions with the courts.

The letter accused the Delhi government of attempting to mislead the courts by filing motivated petitions and presenting false affidavits to influence the justice system. It also highlighted that disputes between GNCTD (Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi) and the Lt Governor have become common in various courts.

The letter, approved by Mr. Saxena, aimed to inform the Union home secretary about the situation in Delhi to prevent unnecessary legal battles in different courts.

The AAP government expressed disappointment over the encroachment on the jurisdiction of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi. It emphasized that Delhi has a democratically elected government accountable to the people, as recognized by the Supreme Court.

The government called for the Union of India to respect the boundaries set by the Constitution and exercise its powers in the spirit of cooperative federalism.
