Maharashtra BJP Leader’s Son Denies Beef Allegations in Nagpur Car Crash Controversy

Nagpur, 11th Sept. Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s son, Sanket Bawankule, who has been embroiled in controversy following a car accident in Nagpur, has been cleared of allegations that he consumed beef before the incident.

According to police reports released on Wednesday, Bawankule did not consume beef at the bar where he dined prior to the accident. Instead, he had mutton and chicken dishes along with liquor.

The clarification follows accusations by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, who earlier claimed that Sanket had consumed beef at the bar. However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-II) Rahul Madne stated, “We have recovered the bill from the bar, which clearly shows that no beef was served to them.”

The accident occurred early Monday morning in the Ramdaspeth area of Nagpur when Sanket’s luxury Audi car collided with several vehicles, injuring two people. Although Sanket was present in the car, he was not driving at the time of the crash. The driver, Arjun Hawre, was arrested but later released on bail.

Further details from the police revealed that Sanket and his friends dined at La Horee bar in Dharampeth, where they ordered mutton roast, mutton curry, chicken tikka, and various vegetarian items, alongside two bottles of liquor worth over Rs 12,000.

Following the accident, a case of rash driving and other related offences was filed based on a complaint by Jitendra Sonkamble, whose vehicle was damaged in the collision. The incident has intensified ahead of the assembly polls, with opposition parties accusing the Mahayuti government, which includes the BJP, of attempting to shield Bawankule’s family by focusing blame on the driver.
