Maharashtra Government Rift: Congress Leader Writes to Maharashtra Governor Criticising MVA Govt’s Stand on Sakinaka Rape-Murder Case

GG News Bureau

Mumbai, 25th Sep. Criticizing the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government’s stand on the Mumbai’s Saki Naka rape-murder case, Congress leader Vishwabandhu Rai has written a letter to the Governor of Maharashtra. In a two-page letter, he put questions for Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and his party.

Congress leader Rai in his letter said, “The CM is the head of a regional party and his political concern is regionalism. He targeted people from other states to satisfy his vote bank.”

The letter says, “The suggestion of convening a special session in the Legislative Assembly on the increasing rape and violence against women in Maharashtra is highly commendable. You have taken this issue seriously. I thank you for this.

After the Saki Naka rape case, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has indirectly blamed the people from other states for this. A rapist of any language, religion, caste should be punished with death.

Crime against women in Mumbai has increased by 144 percent in the last few months. In the year 2020, 2061 rape cases have been registered in Maharashtra. Apart from this, many cases are happening every day.

In the SakiNaka incident, the Mumbai Police Commissioner had given an absurd statement saying that the police cannot be everywhere. It is a direct shunning of responsibilities. Action should be taken against such irresponsible commissioners.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra is also the chief of a regional party. Their political concern is provincialism. Therefore, by directly targeting the people of other states in the Saki Naka rape case, he has tried to satisfy his own vote bank. Directly or indirectly targeting the people of any other state by any Chief Minister is a condemnable act.

Some other political parties in Maharashtra also do petty politics by taking the help of this. When the Chief Minister starts doing politics over a crime, then on whom should the people of the state depend for fair justice? That is why I felt it appropriate to write this letter to you.

The so-called secular leaders of MVA have also kept silent on this kind of politics. It appears that insulting people of other states is part of the ‘Common Minimum Programme’ of this government. All these secular leaders are seen under the pressure of the Chief Minister.
