Mumbai, 28th July. After the current session of the state legislative assembly’s monsoon session ends, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais is likely to reveal the names of 12 nominated Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs).

According to sources, the BJP will win the most seats, 6 of them, followed by the Shiv Sena camp of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde with 3 seats and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar with 3 seats.

This comes after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Governor’s nomination of 12 MLCs on July 12 after these positions remained empty for more than three years.

The nomination was delayed for more than two years by the former governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. When the terms of the current members expired in June of last year, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) administration selected a list of 12 candidates and later submitted it for the governor’s approval. Koshyari, who was fired from his position in February 2021, did not, however, authorise the list until his tenure was over.
