New Delhi, 8th Dec.
Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra has been expelled from Parliament following the recommendation of the Ethics Panel regarding the cash-for-query controversy. Leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc have criticized the Lok Sabha Ethics Panel’s recommendation and accused the BJP-led government of engaging in vindictive politics.

The report was presented in the Lok Sabha on Friday amidst protests from opposition MPs who questioned the panel’s procedures and demanded a discussion on the report.

The Ethics Committee, which investigated the allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, approved its 500-page report on November 9, recommending the expulsion of Moitra from the 17th Lok Sabha due to her highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal behavior.

The draft report was approved by a majority of 6:4 in the panel last month.

The report on Moitra’s cash-for-questions case reveals that she visited the UAE four times between 2019 and 2023, while her login was accessed multiple times.

Six panel members voted in favor of the report, including Congress MP Preneet Kaur, who had previously been suspended from the party. Four panel members from opposition parties submitted dissenting notes.
