New Delhi, 31st July. Mamata Banerjee, Chief of the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister of West Bengal, urged Manipur’s residents to embrace peace for the benefit of humanity. She also promised to stand by the residents of the north eastern state.

“When I hear the heart breaking stories from Manipur, my heart bleeds terribly. Never should a human life experience the suffering of hatred’s merciless experiments. But let us take comfort in the knowledge that INDIA will mend wounds and reignite the torch of compassion in the face of those in authority remaining silent, Banerjee tweeted.

Since Saturday, a group of MPs from the TMC-affiliated opposition party INDIA has been in Manipur for two days.

“I sincerely implore the valiant brothers and sisters of Manipur to embrace peace for the benefit of humanity. We are here for you, extending our undying love and support,” she stated.

Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP responded by labelling Banerjee’s remark regarding the situation in Manipur as a “politically mala fide tweet.”

It is a tweet that is intentionally political,  he said.

The leader of the opposition in West Bengal also questioned the chief minister’s passivity during the allegedly violent Panchayat polls. Suvendu Adhikari alleged that “CM Banerjee’s administration did not take any action to stop the violence during the state’s Panchayat poll elections.”

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ten years in office, adding that throughout that time there were no “corruption charges.”

In a few months, PM Modi’s administration will have served for 10 years, and no one has been charged with corruption. The nation has advanced and its financial situation has also improved under PM Modi’s leadership, according to Adhikari.

Since ethnic riots started in Manipur on May 3, when a “Tribal Solidarity March” was held in the hill regions to oppose the Meitei community’s desire for Scheduled Tribe (ST) classification, more than 160 people have died and hundreds have been injured.

The majority of Meiteis, who make up around 53% of Manipur’s population, reside in the Imphal Valley. A little over 40% of the population are tribal people, mostly Nagas and Kukis, who live in the hill districts.
