Kolkata, 21st May.
Swapan Banerjee, also known as ‘Babun’, the youngest brother of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a prominent figure within the Trinamool Congress, encountered a setback on Monday as he was unable to cast his vote due to his name being absent from the voters’ list.

Babun, a resident of Howrah town, visited a polling booth to exercise his franchise but was dismayed to discover that his name was not included in the electoral roster. Expressing his disappointment, he emphasized the significance of the right to vote in a democratic country.

“The Election Commission of India is looking into the whole matter. Only it can explain why this happened,” stated Trinamool Congress spokesperson Shantanu Sen in response to the incident.

When contacted, Babun expressed his disappointment, highlighting his long history of voting and asserting his entitlement to participate in the electoral process.

This incident comes against the backdrop of internal rifts within the Trinamool Congress, with Babun previously expressing dissatisfaction over the party’s decision to renominate sitting MP Prasun Banerjee for the Howrah Lok Sabha seat. Mamata Banerjee had publicly disowned Babun following his criticism of the party’s nomination choices.

Amid speculation of Babun considering independent candidacy or potential affiliation with the BJP, his absence from the voters’ list adds a layer of intrigue to the ongoing political dynamics in West Bengal.
