Manipur: 2 Children Killed in Bomb Attack on Village Home

Fresh violence in Bishnupur; separate case of minor’s death sparks outrage

GG News Bureau
Imphal, 7th April: Fresh violence has rocked Manipur after two children were killed in a bomb attack on a residential house in Bishnupur district, triggering panic in the conflict-hit region.

According to sources, the projectile struck a home in Tronglaobi village under Moirang area, leading to a powerful explosion that killed the children on the spot. The blast also damaged the house and left residents in shock as locals rushed to the scene for rescue efforts.

The village lies along the sensitive hill-valley boundary, near areas reportedly occupied by armed groups. Residents claimed that explosives were launched from elevated hill positions over three kilometres away, raising concerns over the reach and intensity of the attack.

Security forces have since placed the area on high alert, with additional deployments made to prevent further escalation. Surveillance and search operations are underway in nearby hill regions, while authorities are closely monitoring other vulnerable villages.

In a separate incident that has further deepened tensions, a seven-year-old girl from a relief camp in Akhampat was found dead under suspicious circumstances. The child, belonging to a displaced family from Moreh, had gone missing earlier.

Preliminary reports suggest possible sexual assault, though officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem. Police have detained one suspect, reportedly from the same relief camp, for questioning.

The twin incidents have sparked widespread outrage across the state, with civil society groups demanding swift justice and stronger protection for civilians, particularly those living in relief camps.

Authorities said investigations into both cases are ongoing, even as residents in several peripheral areas continue to live in fear of further attacks.
