New Delhi, 9th June. Industrial titans Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, along with Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Rajinikanth, and Akshay Kumar, are among the distinguished guests attending PM-designate Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday.
Narendra Modi is set to be sworn in for his third term as Prime Minister. Unlike his previous two terms, this time Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will rely significantly on the support of coalition partners, having secured 240 seats—32 short of the 272-majority mark required to govern independently. The BJP’s major allies in this coalition include Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU).
The ceremony, scheduled at Rashtrapati Bhavan, will be closely observed as around 50 ministers are expected to take the oath of office alongside Modi. The announcement of the cabinet’s makeup is still pending, adding to the anticipation surrounding the event.
In both 2014 and 2019, the BJP won comfortable majorities, but the party’s inability to replicate this performance in 2024 has surprised analysts and defied exit poll predictions. As Modi prepares to navigate a more coalition-dependent administration, the political dynamics in India appear set for a significant shift.
