Kurukshetra, 27th Dec. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Monday that the Centre is fully supporting the judiciary in resolving cases before the courts.

According to the minister, over five crore cases are pending in various courts across the country.

Rijiju was speaking at the Kurukshetra University campus in Haryana during the “Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad” 16th national conference.

He stated that the government took steps to “equip” the courts so that they could function during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rijiju said several politicians and media persons continue to spread that there is some sort of tension between the Centre and the judiciary and many a times, newspapers claim that the government is trying to “capture the authority of the judiciary”.

He asserts that since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the Constitution has become a “pious book” for running the country.

“The people of the country have to judge who are the people who are trying to destroy this system,” the law minister said.

He stated that judges must be “committed” to the people rather than the government.

“For us, the judiciary must be committed to the country but for others, the judiciary must be committed to their (political) parties,” the Bharatiya Janata Party leader added.
