New Delhi, 4th March.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday released three videos highlighting the Modi government’s achievements in combating the drug menace.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the videos and emphasize the government’s resolute stance against narcotics.

In one of his posts, Shah commended the government’s relentless efforts, stating, “The Modi government’s ruthless approach towards narco-trade has borne effective results. The upshot of this approach is the drastic rise in the number of arrests and seizures.”

Highlighting the collaborative efforts, Shah reiterated, “An invincible anti-narcotics apparatus has been built nationwide through Coordination, Cooperation and Collaboration among governments and agencies under the guidance of Modi Ji. The strategy has resulted in an increased number of drug seizures and cases registered.”

Emphasizing the importance of a drug-free nation, Shah remarked, “A #DrugsFreeBharat is the greatest gift to our future generations. Our nation is speeding to achieve this goal through the detection of drugs, destruction of drug networks, and detention of culprits while rehabilitating addicts under the leadership of PM Modi Ji.”

The data released by the Ministry showcased remarkable progress in curbing the illegal drug trade. The quantity of narcotics seized witnessed a nearly 100% increase, while cases registered against drug offenders surged by 152% during the Modi government’s tenure.

Comparing statistics from 2006 to 2013 with those from 2014 to 2023, the Ministry revealed a significant rise in arrests, seizures, and the value of confiscated drugs. The Modi government seized 3.95 lakh kgs of drugs, valued at Rs. 22,000 crore, representing a substantial increase from the 1.52 lakh kgs seized during the preceding period.

Additionally, anti-narcotics agencies destroyed 12 lakh kgs of drugs worth Rs. 12,000 crores under the Modi government’s watch. The National Narcotics Bureau (NCB) conducted financial investigations in 23 cases, resulting in the freezing of assets worth ₹74,75,00,531 by June 2023.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India, the government bolstered the four-tier NCORD mechanism in 2019 to enhance coordination between Central and State drug law enforcement agencies, further strengthening the nation’s resolve against drug abuse and trafficking.
