MP Assembly Polls: BJP Releases Fifth List of Candidates, Fields Devendra Jain from Shivpuri

New Delhi, 21st Oct. The BJP on Saturday released its fifth candidate list for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, with 92 names. This brings the total number of announced candidates to 228 out of the 230 seats in the assembly.

One notable nomination is Devendra Kumar Jain, who will be running for the Shivpuri seat after Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Jyotiraditya Scindia’s aunt, refused to contest in the elections.

Sachin Birla, who previously left the Congress party to join the BJP, has been nominated for the Barwah constituency. Siddharth Raj Tiwari, who recently defected from the Congress to the BJP, will be contesting from the Tyonthar constituency.

Mausam Bisen, the daughter of Minister Gaurishankar Bisen, has been nominated for the Balaghat seat.

The party has also nominated several state ministers, including Usha Thakur for Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Inder Singh Parmar for Shujalpur, Mahendra Singh Sisodia for Bamori, and Ram Khilavan Patel for Amarpatan, among others.

Former ministers who have been nominated include Maya Singh for Gwalior East, Narayan Singh Kushwaha for Gwalior South, Jayant Malaiya for Damoh, Archana Chitnis for Burhanpur, Mahendra Hardia for Indore 5, Antar Singh Arya for Sendhwa, and Surya Prakash Meena for Shamshabad.

Out of the 92 candidates in the latest list, 12 are women.

The Madhya Pradesh polls will take place on November 17 in a single phase, with results being announced on December 3.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was named in the party’s fourth candidate list for the elections.

The BJP is currently the ruling party in Madhya Pradesh, with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan leading the government. The party has been in power for the past 15 years, except for a brief period in 2018 when the Congress won 114 seats in the assembly elections. However, in March 2020, the BJP regained power in Madhya Pradesh after the collapse of the Congress government.
