Mumbai School’s Principal Dismissal Sparks Social Media Controversy

Mumbai, 8th May.
A prominent school in Mumbai finds itself embroiled in controversy following its decision to terminate the services of its principal, Parveen Shaikh, amidst allegations of inappropriate social media conduct. The move comes in the wake of reports suggesting Shaikh’s support of pro-Palestine content on various social media platforms.

In a statement issued by the management of Somaiya School, Shaikh’s dismissal was justified as a response to concerns regarding the inconsistency between her personal social media activities and the institution’s core values of unity and inclusivity.

However, Shaikh vehemently opposed the decision, denouncing it as “wrongful and unjust.” Expressing shock over the termination, Shaikh revealed that she learned of her dismissal through social media even before receiving official notice from the management. She contested the legality of the termination, accusing the management of succumbing to defamatory allegations against her.

Asserting her exemplary track record as a school principal spanning over 12 years, Shaikh expressed disappointment at the lack of support from the management amidst what she described as a “vitriolic public vilification campaign” targeting her. She emphasized her dedication and sincere contributions to the school’s growth since assuming the role of principal seven years ago.

Prior to her dismissal, Shaikh had been asked to resign over her social media posts. Despite the management’s claim of seeking clarification from her and awaiting a response, Shaikh criticized the decision as politically motivated. She affirmed her faith in the legal system and the Indian Constitution while contemplating her legal recourse.
