Kohima, 6th Nov. All polling stations for the by-election to the Tapi Assembly seat in Nagaland’s Mon district will be under CCTV surveillance, according to an official.

A total of 15,256 voters, consisting of 7,788 males and 7,468 females, are eligible to vote in the election.

The polling will take place from 7 am to 4 pm in 23 polling stations, with seven identified as vulnerable and six as critical.

There have been no reports of violence since the announcement of the by-election date and the implementation of the model code of conduct on October 9.

Only a small amount of cash and some liquor have been seized, with no other complaints of violence.

The polling stations will be divided into five sectors, manned by gazetted and central officers.

The returning officer is confident that the polling will be conducted smoothly and peacefully.

The by-election is being held due to the death of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28.

The candidates in the election are Wangpang Konyak from the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Alliance and Wanglem Konyak from the Indian National Congress.

The votes will be counted on December 3.
