Bhubaneswar, 9th July.
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Divine Retreat Centre of Brahma Kumaris at Haridamada village near Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on July 8, 2024. Alongside the inauguration, she also launched the national campaign ‘Lifestyle for Sustainability’ initiated by the Brahma Kumaris.

In her address, President Murmu emphasized the importance of respecting and preserving Mother Nature. She stated, “Forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, seas, rain, and air are all essential for the survival of living beings. Humans should remember that abundance in nature is for their needs, not for their greed. By exploiting nature, humans are becoming victims of nature’s wrath. Establishing harmony with nature and living a nature-friendly life is the need of the hour.”

President Murmu highlighted the deep connection between Indian culture and nature, mentioning how Indian philosophy regards the earth as mother and the sky as father, and worships natural elements like rivers, rain, and the ocean. She remarked, “Nature is not inert; it possesses the power of consciousness within it. These are the beautiful thoughts of Indian philosophers aimed at protecting nature.”

Addressing the pressing issues of climate change, global warming, and unpredictable weather patterns, the President noted that natural disasters such as floods, landslides, avalanches, earthquakes, forest fires, and tsunamis have become frequent. She stressed the need for small changes in daily life to pave the way for significant societal changes, urging the audience to minimize the use of natural resources, avoid wasting water, and adopt energy-saving habits.

“It is not enough to just discuss a nature-friendly lifestyle; we have to make it a part of our daily lives. Saving natural resources must become a habit,” she urged.

The President lauded the efforts of those involved in the ‘Lifestyle for Sustainability’ campaign, calling it a praiseworthy initiative to connect people with nature. She emphasized that the campaign should extend beyond meetings and conferences, encouraging participants to raise awareness about environmental issues, especially among rural populations.

The inauguration and campaign launch mark a significant step in promoting sustainable living and environmental consciousness across India.
