NBDA Condemns Signal Blockage of News Channels by Andhra Pradesh Cable Operators

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 25th June.
The News Broadcasters & Digital Authority (NBDA) has expressed surprise and concern over the blocking of signals for Sakshi TV, TV9, NTV, and 10TV by the Cable TV Operators Association of Andhra Pradesh. No reasons have been given for this action, which violates TRAI regulations. Allegations suggest the blockade is linked to the channels’ critical reporting on the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which recently won against the Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party in state elections.

NBDA warns that such steps by cable operators threaten the interests of broadcasters, media freedom, and public access to information. It emphasizes that political parties must respect broadcasters’ editorial freedom, and interference undermines media independence, violating Articles 19(1)(a) and 19(1)(g) of the Indian Constitution.

The blockade has substantial negative impacts on broadcasters’ business, viewership, and advertisement revenue. NBDA urges the newly elected Government of Andhra Pradesh to uphold press freedom and ensure uninterrupted operation for all broadcasters. It calls for swift action to address and rectify attempts to silence the media.

NBDA requests the government’s intervention to encourage cable operators to reconsider their stance and avoid confrontation, which is detrimental to all stakeholders and public interest.
