New Delhi, 19th Sept. In alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023, NCERT has introduced a new poem and chapter to the Class VI curriculum. The poem, titled National War Memorial, and the chapter Veer Abdul Hameed aim to instill values of patriotism, duty, courage, and sacrifice in students.

The chapter honors CQMH Abdul Hameed, a hero of the 1965 India-Pakistan war, who was posthumously awarded the Param Veer Chakra. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education, complements the National War Memorial, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 25, 2019. The Memorial, located at India Gate, serves to commemorate soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation and promote national spirit among citizens.

The Ministry of Defence and NCERT’s inclusion of these elements in the curriculum is part of a broader effort to enhance the national significance of the War Memorial and inspire youth participation in nation-building.
