Noida Man Arrested for Sharing Deepfake Video of Yogi Adityanath

The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a man in Noida for allegedly sharing an AI-generated “deepfake” video of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to officials, the video was disseminated to spread misleading information and bolster anti-national sentiments.

Additional Director General of Police (UP STF) Amitabh Yash revealed that the deepfake video surfaced on May 1, portraying the Uttar Pradesh chief minister in a fabricated scenario. The video, posted on social media platform X, aimed to mislead the public and promote anti-national agendas.

An FIR has been filed under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act at the Noida Cyber Crime police station. The STF’s Noida unit initiated an investigation into the matter, leading to the arrest of Shyam Kishor Gupta, the accused.

Gupta, who claims to be the president of the ‘Rehri-Patri’ (street vendors) welfare association on his social media profile, is currently undergoing legal proceedings at the local cyber crime police station in Noida.
