Madurai, 16th July.
A functionary of the Naam Thamizhar Katchi (NTK) party, Balasubramanian, was brutally hacked to death this morning while on his routine morning walk. The police have ruled out a political motive, suggesting the attack was driven by a family dispute.

“Initial investigation suggests that it’s a murder out of vengeance due to a family dispute. Investigation is underway. There is no CCTV in the vicinity,” a police officer told NDTV.

Balasubramanian, who is alleged to have a criminal history, was reportedly involved in three murder cases. This incident follows the recent murder of Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) Tamil Nadu chief K Armstrong, who was killed by six men on bikes. Police have linked Armstrong’s death to the murder of gangster Arcot Suresh, with Suresh’s family suspecting Armstrong’s involvement.

In a related development, Thiruvengadam, one of the eleven accused in Armstrong’s murder, was shot dead by police in an encounter in Chennai on Sunday. The police stated that Thiruvengadam opened fire while they were recovering a country-made gun from a hideout, leading to retaliatory firing.

In response to Armstrong’s murder, the Tamil Nadu government transferred Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rathore and appointed A Arun as the new top cop. Arun has pledged to crack down on criminal activities and deal firmly with those involved.
