Bhubaneswar, 14th Feb.
The Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) made a significant announcement on Tuesday, declaring a reduction in power tariffs for domestic consumers by 10 paise per unit across all slabs for the upcoming financial year 2024-25.

Under the current tariff structure, domestic consumers pay Rs 3 per unit for the initial 50 units, Rs 4.80 per unit for consumption between 50 and 200 units, Rs 5.80 per unit for usage ranging from 200 to 400 units, and Rs 6.20 per unit for consumption exceeding 400 units. Effective from April 1 this year, these rates will be decreased by 10 paise per unit, as confirmed by an OERC official.

While the retail power supply tariffs for other categories remain unchanged, OERC Secretary Priyabrata Patnaik stated that these rates have remained stable for the past three years. Additionally, adjustments were made to other charges and rebates. The fixed monthly charge for Below Poverty Line (BPL) consumers has been reduced from Rs 80 to Rs 70 per month, and customers opting for e-bills will receive a Rs 10 rebate per bill.

In further revisions, the premium on green energy tariff has been decreased from 25 paise per unit to 20 paise per unit, while the tariff for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging has been reduced from Rs 5.50 to Rs 5 per unit. Consumers using pre-paid meters will benefit from a 4% rebate on their pre-paid amount, and low transmission (LT) domestic and single-phase general-purpose consumers will continue to receive a 4% rebate for digital payments.

Moreover, cold storage tariffs have been slashed by Rs 1.60 per unit, dropping from Rs 4.60 per unit to Rs 3 per unit. Mega lift point consumers will enjoy a rebate of Rs 2 per unit, resulting in a revised tariff of Rs 3.80 per unit, without any demand charge.

Rural LT domestic consumers who pay their bills on time will receive a 10 paise per unit rebate, providing additional benefits to these consumers.
