Lucknow, 1st Dec. The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay, the secretary of the state’s examination regulatory authority.

The action comes two days after a question paper of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) was leaked.

Upadhyay was responsible for conducting the examination and the lapses that occurred. The government has also started a disciplinary inquiry against him.

UPTET is the minimum qualification to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in government schools.

The suspension order issued by Basic Education Secretary Anamika Singh stated that Upadhyay is prima facie guilty of not maintaining the sanctity of the examination and failing to adhere to high standards of confidentiality.

According to the order, the state government has been brought into disrepute by canceling the exam even before the start of the exam due to leak. Paper leaks reveal that Upadhyay failed to conduct the exam smoothly and hence, he was suspended after the approval of Governor Anandiben Patel.

Upadhyay has been attached to the Directorate of Basic Education, Lucknow during the suspension period.

Over 20 lakh candidates had registered for the UPTET scheduled on November 28. It was canceled after reports of a question paper leak.

UP STF has arrested 29 accused and placed 20 more people from other districts under investigation.
