PM Modi Announces Aid, Assures Support for Kerala Landslide Victims

New Delhi, 30th July. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives due to landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district and assured Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of the central government’s full support to address the crisis.

In view of the devastating landslides that claimed eight lives, including three children, PM Modi announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The landslides struck the hilly Wayanad district early on Tuesday, causing significant disruption and damage.

PM Modi conveyed his distress through a post on X, stating, “Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue operations are currently underway to assist all those affected.”

The Prime Minister also reached out to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, offering assurances of all possible assistance from the Centre. Official sources revealed that Modi had further discussions with Union Ministers from Kerala, Suresh Gopi and George Kurien, regarding the situation.

Additionally, PM Modi has directed BJP President J P Nadda to mobilize party workers in the region to support ongoing relief efforts. The central government’s prompt response aims to provide timely aid and support to the affected families and assist in the recovery process.
