PM Modi Assesses Situation Due to Landslide in Manipur, Assures All Assistance from Centre

Imphal, 30th June. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Chief Minister Manipur N. Biren Singh and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide in the state.

PM Modi tweeted, “Spoke to Manipur CM Shri @NBirenSingh Ji and reviewed the situation due to a tragic landslide. Assured all possible support from the Centre. I pray for the safety of all those affected. My thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon”

According to officials, at least eight people were killed and more than 50 are missing after a massive landslide hit the 107 Territorial Army (TA) camp in the Noney district of Manipur early Thursday.

Seven of the eight killed are reported to be Territorial Army jawans and an Indian Railways labourer working on the Imphal-Jiribam Railway project. According to sources, the TA was stationed near the Tupul Railway Station in Noney to protect an under-construction railway line connecting Jiribam and Imphal.

According to officials, as many as 13 people were rescued by 5.30 a.m., and the injured are being treated at the Noney Army Medical Unit. The evacuation of critically injured personnel is also underway, they added.
