PM Modi Condoles Deaths in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur Accident, Announces ex-gratia

New Delhi, 14th April. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over the death of seven people in an accident in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the deceased’s next-of-kin and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.

Seven people were killed and ten others were injured after being run over by a truck in the Garhshankar area of Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district.

“Expressing grief on the loss of lives due to an accident in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, PM @narendramodi has approved an ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” said a tweet on Friday from the Prime Minister’s Office’s official handle.

“Seven people died on the spot,” Daljit Singh Khakh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said on Thursday.

According to the DSP, the accident occurred while they were on their way to Charan Choh Ganga Khuralgarh Sahib Gurudwara in the Garhshankar sub-division.

The bodies of the deceased have been kept in a mortuary, according to the police.

Teena, one of the injured, was taken to the PGI Hospital in Chandigarh.

“She is recovering,” said the official.
