New Delhi, 28th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Indian weightlifter Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam on winning the bronze medal in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, saying her success was the result of hard work and determination.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Yet another medal for India in Weightlifting! Proud of Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam for winning a Bronze in the Women’s 58kg event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Her success is due to her hard work and determination. Wishing her the very best for the endeavours ahead.”
The Birmingham 2022 silver medallist, competing in a higher weight category this time, secured the bronze with a total lift of 199 kg, comprising 87 kg in the snatch and 112 kg in the clean and jerk. The medal marked her second consecutive Commonwealth Games podium finish.
Bindyarani’s bronze further strengthened India’s impressive campaign in weightlifting at the Glasgow Games. The medal was India’s fifth in weightlifting and helped raise the country’s overall tally at the Games.
The 26-year-old from Manipur has been one of India’s most consistent weightlifters in recent years, and her latest podium finish continues the country’s strong tradition in Commonwealth Games weightlifting.
