PM Modi Hails Karunanidhi as “Towering Figure” in Indian Politics & Society

Chennai, 18th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the late DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, describing him as a “towering figure” in Indian politics, literature, and society.

In a heartfelt message to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Karunanidhi’s son, PM Modi lauded the leader’s contributions, particularly his efforts to promote Tamil language and culture, which continue to be cherished by the people.

The Prime Minister’s message was shared by Chief Minister Stalin on his ‘X’ handle in recognition of a special occasion: the release of a commemorative coin celebrating Karunanidhi’s centenary. The ceremony, held on Sunday, was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Expressing gratitude, Stalin thanked Modi for his support and kind words.

In his message, Modi highlighted Karunanidhi’s enduring influence on both Tamil Nadu and national progress. “He was always passionate about the development of Tamil Nadu, as well as national progress,” the Prime Minister noted. He further acknowledged Karunanidhi’s multiple tenures as Chief Minister, underlining his deep understanding of society, policy, and politics.

Modi described Karunanidhi as a multi-talented personality with a “prolific pen,” whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations. The release of the commemorative coin, he added, honors the late leader’s memory and the values he upheld, serving as a reminder of his lasting impact on the nation.

Looking towards India’s future, Modi remarked, “As we march ahead confidently towards building a developed India by 2047, the vision and thoughts of leaders like Thiru Kalaignar Karunanidhi ji will continue to shape the nation’s journey.” The Prime Minister wished the coin release ceremony great success.
