PM Modi to Honor Churu District Collector Siddharth Sihag

New Delhi, 21st April. Churu district collector Siddharth Sihag will be conferred with the Prime Minister’s Award at a function to be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will give 20 lakh rupees and a citation to the District Collector under this award to be received by Churu district for the excellent work done in the district and better achievements in the Khelo India campaign.

District Information and Science Officer Laxman Singh Chaudhary informed that the Prime Minister’s Award, 2021 is being given on the basis of large scale participation of young sportspersons in the developed sports centres in the district, medals at national and international level by sportspersons, representation of women sportspersons, para sportspersons, innovations made by the district administration in Fit India/Khelo India. He said that after a long selection process in five phases, the district has been selected for this award. A documentary film based on sports activities of the district has been made which will be aired on April 21, 2022 at the time of award distribution.

It is worth mentioning that in the district, 8 centres of Khelo India sanctioned by SAI are Athletics Rajgarh, Dronacharya National Boxing Academy Rajgarh, Table Tennis District Stadium Churu, Hockey Gajuwas, Handball Academy Loha, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Boxing Urmila Sports Academy, Nyangal are the largest run in Rajasthan. A world class synthetic athletic trek certified by the newly constructed International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has been built by SAI at district stadium Churu at Churu district headquarters at a cost of Rs 6.30 crore.

The main other sports centres in the district are Athletics Sports Ground Rajgarh, Chandgiram Volleyball Academy Bairasar Chota, Volleyball Maidan Jigsana Tal, Archery, Shooting, Kabaddi, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball Maidan Ratannagar, Phogat Wrestling Academy, Hamusar, Table Tennis Gandhi Bal Niketan Ratangarh, Badminton Shri Hanuman Gymnasium Ratangarh.

The Khelo India Youth Games 2019 Pune, 2020 Guwahati was represented by 34 sportspersons from the Churu district out of which 10 sports persons received medals at the Khelo India Youth Games 2020 Guwahati, Assam which was 20 percent of the medals received by Rajasthan.  In the year 2019 to 2021, women and para players have also received medals for the district.

As an innovation, the District Administration has made the Fit India programme a success by creating awareness campaigns on nutrition and health in schools of the district by making children aware about nutrition and health. This historic success has been achieved with the full cooperation of all the sportspersons, coaches and sports administrators of the sports world of Churu district, district collector Churu as the captain of this team and all the public representatives.
