New Delhi, 16th August. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the Indian contingent participating in the Paris Olympics to join the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, emphasizing the significance of environmental conservation. During a meeting at his residence on Thursday, Modi highlighted the campaign’s goal of raising awareness about tree planting as a means to protect the environment.

“The country is running a campaign called ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ to save the environment. I urge all of you to participate in this campaign by planting a tree with your mother,” PM Modi said. He encouraged the athletes, many of whom come from rural backgrounds, to promote natural farming practices upon returning to their villages, inspired by the environmental initiatives observed in Paris.

Modi also urged the sportspersons to motivate the youth towards fitness and environmental stewardship. “I am confident that you will inspire everyone towards the conservation of the environment and nature,” he added.

The ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, launched by Modi on World Environment Day, aims to plant 800 million saplings by September 2024 and 1.4 billion by March 2025. The initiative seeks to boost environmental protection and create a sustainable future. The campaign was symbolically kicked off with Modi planting a Peepal tree at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi.

During the interaction, PM Modi also praised the Khelo India program, emphasizing its importance in strengthening India’s sports ecosystem. He stressed the need to support and develop talent from the grassroots level to build a world-class sports infrastructure.
