New Delhi, 8th Jan. The Prime Minister’s Office will hold a high-level meeting on the Joshimath crisis on Sunday afternoon, amid widespread concern in the Uttarakhand region due to land sinking and cracks in houses.

According to an official statement, P K Mishra, the prime minister’s principal secretary, will hold the review meeting with the cabinet secretary, other senior central government officials, and members of the National Disaster Management Authority.

Joshimath district officials, as well as senior Uttarakhand officials, will participate in the review meeting via video conferencing.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami went to Joshimath on Saturday to assess the situation, a day after ordering the immediate evacuation of 600 affected families.

Joshimath, said Dhami, is an important cultural, religious, and tourist destination, and all efforts will be made to preserve it.

Joshimath, the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites such as Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib, as well as the international skiing destination Auli, is facing a major challenge as a result of land subsidence.
