London/New Delhi- External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar, speaking at Chatham House in London, highlighted India’s efforts in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the abrogation of Article 370, economic revival, social justice, and the successful conduct of elections in the Union Territory. He stated that the only unresolved issue was the part of Jammu and Kashmir illegally occupied by Pakistan.
Jaishankar asserted, “We have done a good job solving most of it. Removing Article 370 was step one, restoring growth and economic activity was step two, and holding elections with high voter turnout was step three. The part we are waiting for is the return of the stolen part of Kashmir under illegal Pakistani occupation. Once that happens, Kashmir will be fully resolved.”
This reiteration follows his previous remarks on May 9, 2024, where he stated that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) is an integral part of India and that every Indian political party is committed to ensuring its return. He had earlier emphasized that the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019 reignited focus on the POK issue.
Jaishankar also recalled India’s historical stance, stating on May 5, 2024, that POK was always a part of India but was “made to forget” by past policies. He reaffirmed that a resolution passed by the Indian Parliament unequivocally asserts India’s claim over the region.
The remarks come amid India’s firm position on Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing its territorial integrity and the need for Pakistan to vacate illegally held areas.
