Poll Strategist Prashant Kishor Foresees Strong Opposition Post-2024 Election Despite BJP’s Victory

New Delhi, 21st May. Poll strategist Prashant Kishor discussed the dynamics of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha election, predicting a victory for the ruling BJP while emphasizing the resilience of the opposition. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Kishor highlighted the significant role of public dissent, particularly citing the farmers’ protests of 2020 and 2021, in shaping government policies despite the BJP’s majority in the Lok Sabha.

Kishor expressed optimism about the strength of the opposition post-election, suggesting that factors such as rural distress, unemployment, and income disparity could serve as potential “pain points” for the government. He emphasized the importance of these issues in shaping public opinion and indicated that the opposition could capitalize on them to challenge the BJP’s dominance.

While acknowledging the BJP’s stronghold in northern and western states, which account for a substantial number of Lok Sabha seats, Kishor also anticipated improved performance for the party in southern and eastern regions. He underscored the BJP’s electoral machinery and its ability to adapt to regional challenges as key factors in its continued success.

Critiquing the opposition’s missed opportunities to dent the BJP’s electoral prospects, Kishor cited instances such as indifferent state election results in 2015 and 2016, the aftermath of demonetization, and the BJP’s setbacks in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Bengal election. He warned against complacency and emphasized the need for strategic opposition unity and action to effectively challenge the BJP’s electoral dominance.
