Poverty-Free Village is PM Modi’s Dream: Shivraj Chouhan

New Delhi, 14th August. Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision of a poverty-free village during his address at the 66th General Council meeting of the National Institute of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) in Rajendra Nagar, Telangana.

Chouhan highlighted that the goal of rural development extends beyond just basic amenities, advocating for comprehensive infrastructure improvements including quality schools, panchayat and community buildings, and enhanced health facilities. He cited late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and the ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission as key schemes advancing rural infrastructure.

Addressing the Aajeevika scheme, Chouhan praised the Livelihood Mission’s impact, noting that 10 crore women have been empowered through it. He revealed the Prime Minister’s target to increase the number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ (prosperous women) from 1 crore to 3 crore, reflecting the government’s commitment to rural economic development.

Chouhan also stressed the need for more capacity building and training, encouraging postgraduate students at NIRDPR to contribute to rural development. During the visit, he inaugurated an online course for Gram Rozgar Sevak (GRS) and signed MoUs with Jawaharlal Nehru University and Indian Institute of Public Administration for further research and training.

Additionally, Chouhan inaugurated a PMAY-G Model House at the Rural Technology Park, showcasing advanced construction technologies. The house, built at a cost of Rs.4.04 lakh, features innovative materials and techniques, including Bamcrete walling and cow dung-based paint.

The visit concluded with a sapling planting ceremony and a tour of the Mud Block making unit in the park. Kamlesh Paswan, Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Shailesh Kumar Singh, and other dignitaries also attended the event.
