New Delhi, 1st March: Indian Oil Corporation Limited has increased the prices of premium petrol and diesel in Delhi amid rising global fuel costs linked to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
The price of XP100 petrol, a high-octane fuel used in premium vehicles, has been raised to ₹160 per litre from ₹149 earlier. Similarly, Xtra Green premium diesel now costs ₹92.99 per litre, up from ₹91.49.
The company has not issued an official explanation for the hike, but the move comes against the backdrop of rising global crude prices and supply disruptions.
In a related development, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices saw an unprecedented spike. Rates in Delhi were initially increased to ₹2,07,341.22 per kilolitre from ₹96,638.14 per kl, marking the first time ATF crossed the ₹2 lakh mark.
However, within hours, the price for domestic airlines was revised downward to ₹1,04,927 per kl to ease pressure on the aviation sector.
Officials indicated that global disruptions, including tensions affecting key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz, were driving fuel price volatility. Oil companies opted for a staggered increase to avoid a sudden financial burden on airlines.
Despite the revision, ATF prices remain among the highest on record, nearing levels last seen in 2022 following global oil shocks.
Meanwhile, the cost of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen sharply to ₹2,078.50 from ₹1,768.50 on March 1. This marks the third hike in March and the fifth increase since the beginning of 2026.
The recent adjustments come days after the government reduced excise duty on regular petrol and diesel by ₹10 per litre to cushion consumers from global price pressures.
