President Murmu Attends Safai Mitra Sammelan in Ujjain, Lays Foundation for Major Road Project

Ujjain, 19th Sept. President Droupadi Murmu graced the Safai Mitra Sammelan in Ujjain on Thursday, where she emphasized the pivotal role of sanitation workers in the nation’s development.

During the event, the President also laid the foundation stone for the Indore-Ujjain Six Lane Road Project, a significant infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity in the region.

In her address, President Murmu praised Safai Mitras as the “front-line sanitation warriors” who play a crucial role in safeguarding the nation from health hazards. “Their efforts in maintaining cleanliness at the local, state, and national levels are invaluable,” she said, acknowledging their contributions to the success of cleanliness campaigns across India.

Highlighting the government’s responsibility, the President underscored the importance of ensuring the safety, dignity, and welfare of Safai Mitras. She outlined the steps being taken to replace hazardous manholes with safer machine-operated alternatives and noted the various welfare programs aimed at benefiting these workers, including health check-ups through Safai Mitra Suraksha Camps. She was pleased to announce that several cities in Madhya Pradesh have already been declared as “Safai Mitra Surakshit” (Safai Mitra Secure) cities.

President Murmu further discussed the second phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission, which will continue until 2025, with a focus on achieving total cleanliness. She emphasized the need for solid and liquid waste management and the goal of maintaining an open defecation-free status across the country.

Concluding her speech, the President called on citizens to actively participate in the “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata” campaign, urging them to pledge their support in keeping the nation clean and honoring the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. She expressed confidence that collective efforts would help build a cleaner, healthier, and more developed India.
