President Murmu Commends Berhampur University’s Impact on Education, Development in Tribal Dominated Region

President Droupadi Murmu graced the 25th convocation of Berhampur University at Bhanja Bihar, Ganjam, Odisha today (March 1, 2024). In her address, she highlighted the significance of the southern region of Odisha in both state and national history, noting its rich cultural heritage and contributions to literature.

Acknowledging Berhampur University’s pivotal role in the region’s education and development, President Murmu commended the institution for its longstanding service since its establishment in 1967. She emphasized the university’s impact on the tribal-dominated area, underscoring its role in providing education to over 45,000 students.

The President celebrated the university’s commitment to gender equality, noting that more than 55 percent of its students are girls. She praised the achievements of female scholars, highlighting that 60 percent of the gold medal winners and half of the researchers receiving doctoral degrees were women.

President Murmu expressed confidence in the potential of women to excel in various fields if provided equal opportunities. She highlighted the increasing participation of women in diverse sectors, signaling a shift towards women-led development.

Addressing the graduating students, the President emphasized that convocation is not merely a ceremony but a recognition of their hard work and success. She encouraged them to continue their pursuit of knowledge and to use their skills for the betterment of society, stressing the importance of lifelong learning and nation-building.
