President Murmu Emphasizes Medical Advancements and Ethics at LHMC’s Annual Day

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday graced the 107th Annual Day and Convocation Ceremony of Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) in New Delhi.

Addressing the audience, President Murmu emphasized the expansive scope of modern medical science, which extends beyond treatment alone. She noted that advancements in fields such as synthetic biology and CRISPR gene editing, amid the 4th Industrial Revolution, hold promise in addressing longstanding issues. However, she also cautioned against the potential misuse of such technologies.

President Murmu underscored the importance of ethical conduct and high values within the medical profession, urging healthcare professionals to adopt an integrated approach focused on ‘one health’.

She stressed the significance of compassion, kindness, and empathy alongside professional competence, citing Mahatma Gandhi’s belief in the intertwining of knowledge, character, and humanity.

Expressing satisfaction with LHMC’s initiatives, President Murmu commended the institution’s designation as an Organ Transplant Retrieval Centre and its efforts in combating antimicrobial resistance through the Comprehensive Antibiotic Stewardship Program.

She highlighted LHMC’s collaboration with other institutes on projects such as Blood Bag Delivery under the iDrone Initiative and the establishment of the National Human Milk Bank and Lactation Counseling Center ‘Vatsalya – Matri Amrit Kosh’ in partnership with the Government of Norway.

President Murmu expressed confidence that initiatives like ‘Vatsalya – Matri Amrit Kosh’ will contribute to raising awareness about breastfeeding and reducing infant mortality rates, reaffirming LHMC’s commitment to healthcare excellence and societal welfare.
