The Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs has announced the inaugural Pey Jal Survekshan Awards, slated for March 5th, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, will preside over the event, which aims to honor cities and states for their exceptional achievements in the water sector.

A total of 130 awards will be presented, recognizing the outstanding contributions of municipalities and regions across various categories. These accolades include the prestigious Pey Jal Gold, Silver, and Bronze City Awards, highlighting top performers in different population categories. Additionally, commendations will be given for Best Water Body, Sustainability Champion, Reuse Champion, Water Quality, City Saturation, and the coveted AMRUT 2.0 Rotating Trophy of the Year.

The evaluation process, conducted under AMRUT 2.0 in 485 cities, involved meticulous assessment across diverse parameters such as access, coverage, water quality, and sustainability of water bodies. Cities will be graded on a star rating scale, reflecting their performance across these critical criteria.

The event, expected to draw over 1,500 awardees and participants, will also mark the launch of the AMRUT Mitra initiative. This initiative aims to actively involve women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the urban water sector, emphasizing their role in household water management and promoting inclusivity and diversity.

Pey Jal Survekshan ensured clean water through independent NABL lab testing at the source and citizen-end, employing advanced technologies such as GIS-enabled web portals and geo-tagging for accurate data collection. The results of the survey are expected to drive decision-making, enhance service delivery, and foster citizen engagement in water conservation efforts.
