President Murmu to Inaugurate “Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav” on Feb 8

 President Drupadi Murmu is set to inaugurate the four-day cultural extravaganza titled “Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav: A cultural odyssey unveiling the richness of Northeast India” on February 8, 2024, at 11:15 AM at Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The event will witness the presence of the Union Minister of DoNER, Culture, and Tourism. Organized as part of Udyan Utsav 2024, the festival is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Development of North East Region and the Ministry of Culture, managed through DoNER’s CPSE, Northeastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC).

The inaugural chapter of Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav is designed to showcase the diverse culture of Northeast India, encompassing traditional arts, crafts, and cultures. Serving as a cultural mosaic, the Mahotsav aims to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, and agro-products, becoming a catalyst for the region’s growth and development.

Key Highlights:

Handicrafts, Handlooms, and Agri-Horti Produce: The Mahotsav will feature the participation of over 320 weavers, artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs from the Northeast Region. It will provide a platform to exhibit the unique aspects that make the Northeast Region culturally rich. The event will showcase exquisite handcrafted products, handloom textiles, and sustainable handicrafts, including organic tea, bamboo products, spices, herbal medicines, handwoven textiles, organic pineapples, honey, and traditional rice varieties.

Live Demonstrations: More than 20 stations will offer live demonstrations, allowing the public to witness the skill and expertise involved in creating jewels from the North-East Region. Demonstrations will include Majuli Mask making, Basket weaving, Lotus Silk Extraction, Nettle Fibre weaving, Loinloom weaving, Dry Flower making, Tribal Jewellery making, Thangka Painting, Brass Metal Carving, and Wood Carving.

Cultural Showcase: The Mahotsav will feature traditional dances and performances from all eight states of Northeast India, with over 350 artists showcasing their talents. Traditional dances such as Wangala Dance of Meghalaya, Mungwanta Dance of Nagaland, Bamboo Dance of Mizoram, and Bihu Dance of Assam will be showcased. Additionally, a fashion show focusing on GI Products from Northeast will highlight the region’s stylistic diversity.

Food Stalls: Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the diverse culinary landscape of Northeast India through food stalls offering Assam Laksa, Manipur’s Eromba, and other regional delicacies, showcasing the region’s distinct tastes and indigenous herbs and spices.

Other Activities: The Mahotsav will feature engaging activities for children and youth, providing them with an opportunity to learn about the historical and cultural richness of Northeast India.

The event will run from 10 AM to 8 PM, and entry is free for all attendees.
