Bhopal, 14th Nov. President Droupadi Murmu will attend the ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas’ event in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol district on Tuesday, according to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Act will also be officially implemented in the state on the same day, Chouhan told reporters on Sunday.

Last year, the government declared November 15 as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ to commemorate the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda and to honor tribal freedom fighters.

The PESA Act-1996 was enacted to prevent tribal population exploitation with the active participation of gram sabha. It delegated special powers to gram sabhas in designated areas, specifically for the management of natural resources.

The Act’s rules have been finalized, and it will go into effect in the state on November 15, according to a senior official.

“The state-level Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas programme will be held at Lalpur village in Shahdol district in the presence of President Droupadi Murmu,” Chouhan said.

The chief minister and senior officials reviewed the preparations for the president’s visit at Lalpur village.
