Bengaluru, 27th Oct: Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has called for greater transparency in the Election Commission of India (ECI), questioning whether decisions attributed to the poll body were unanimous or taken unilaterally.
Kharge pointed to alleged dissent letters involving the Election Commissioners and asked why such letters existed if all three members had agreed on the decision. He said the letters were written by the commissioners themselves, not by the Congress party.
Questions Over Dissent Letters
Kharge alleged that two of the three Election Commissioners disagreed with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s actions. He also claimed that the commissioners were under pressure from the Central Government to disown their dissent letters.
Questioning Kumar’s silence on the issue, Kharge asked why BJP leaders were responding on behalf of a constitutional authority. He also raised concerns over the judicial immunity granted to the Chief Election Commissioner, arguing that the issue required greater clarity.
Seeks Answers on Software Changes
The Karnataka minister further questioned who had ordered alleged software changes and what had caused the reported discrepancies. He said these questions remained unanswered and called for transparency in the Commission’s functioning.
