Panaji, 27th July. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has praised the Centre’s Agnipath scheme, calling it a progressive move for the Indian armed forces. Sawant emphasized that the scheme will foster dedicated and motivated youth for the nation’s future.

Introduced in 2022, the Agnipath scheme is designed for short-term recruitment in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It targets individuals aged 17-and-a-half to 21 years for a four-year service period, with a provision to retain 25% of recruits for an additional 15 years.

In a recent X post, Sawant stated, “The Agnipath scheme is a way forward for our armed forces and shall create dedicated, motivated youth for a bright future of Bharat.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also defended the scheme, labeling it as a necessary reform to maintain a youthful average age in the military. Modi slammed opposition parties for politicizing the scheme and dismissed claims that it was a move to cut pension costs during his address on Kargil Vijay Diwas, marking the 25th anniversary of the Kargil war victory.
