Mumbai, 13th April.
Raj Thackeray, the chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, claimed that the construction of the Ayodhya Ram temple would not have happened if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not in office, despite the Supreme Court’s order.

Speaking to reporters, Thackeray, who has pledged unconditional support to PM Modi for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, stated that MNS will create a list of leaders that the Mahayuti alliance can reach out to for election coordination.

Thackeray avoided answering questions about whether he will hold rallies for the Mahayuti, which is Maharashtra’s ruling alliance consisting of BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP.

He met with his party members, office-bearers, and frontal organizations, urging them to campaign for Mahayuti-supported candidates in the hope that MNS leaders will be respected.

The Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, where 48 MPs are elected, will take place in five phases between April 19 and May 20.
“If Narendra Modi was not the Prime Minister, the Ram temple would not have been built even after the Supreme Court’s order. It would have remained unresolved,” Thackeray said.

In a landmark decision in November 2019, the Supreme Court removed legal obstacles to the construction of the Ram temple at the disputed Ayodhya site. The consecration of the temple occurred on January 22 this year.

Thackeray noted that the issue of the Ram temple had been pending since 1992 when the Babri mosque was demolished.

Thackeray explained his party’s support for the BJP by saying, “Certain good things that happen need to be appreciated. On one hand, there is ineffective leadership, and on the other hand, there is strong leadership. So we decided to support Narendra Modi.”

Responding to criticism from the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by his cousin Uddhav Thackeray, for backing PM Modi, Thackeray said they have biased views.

Thackeray mentioned that he has specific demands for Maharashtra, such as granting classical language status to Marathi and restoring forts in the state, which he plans to communicate to the BJP.

He acknowledged that Gujarat is important to PM Modi as it is his home state, but he urged the Prime Minister to also prioritize other states in a similar manner, according to the MNS chief.
