Jaipur, 13th August.
An army soldier was reportedly stripped and assaulted while in police custody in Jaipur, Rajasthan, leading to a strong response from Rajasthan’s Sainik Kalyan Minister, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. Rathore, who visited the Shipra Path police station on Monday, condemned the incident and raised the issue with the Director General of Police (DGP), U R Sahoo.

According to DGP Sahoo, the soldier was among several people arrested during a raid on an illegal hookah bar the previous night. Following Rathore’s intervention, a sub-inspector and three constables have been reassigned to the police lines, and an inquiry has been initiated into the matter.

In a statement to reporters, Rathore expressed his outrage, highlighting the soldier’s mistreatment. “A very sad incident came to my knowledge where a soldier, who is serving in Kashmir and is visiting here, was stripped by some police personnel and beaten with sticks,” Rathore said. “He was made to sit in the middle of the people and some policemen made him repeat that the police is the ‘baap’ of the Indian Army.”

Rathore, a former army officer himself, emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the police force. “I have been in uniform and I respect Rajasthan police. This is a matter of great sadness and it shows the disgusting mentality of those two-three persons who did this,” he remarked. He assured that he had spoken to the DGP, who promised that strict action would be taken against the offenders.

The minister also mentioned that the medical report confirmed the soldier’s assault, stressing the need for accountability within the police department. “An Indian army soldier has been caught and beaten up by five police personnel, that too without any reason. So strict action is necessary against those who are breaking the law in the police department,” Rathore added.
