New Delhi, 26th May.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prospects in the southern region, asserting that the party would secure seats across states, breaking previous electoral barriers. Singh emphasized the BJP’s strengthened presence in Tamil Nadu and anticipated gains in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Singh addressed the perceived north-south divide in voting patterns, suggesting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s widespread popularity has bridged regional disparities. He underscored the BJP’s objective of securing a substantial mandate, aiming for 370 seats independently and 400 in alliance.

Singh highlighted the BJP’s growing foothold in Tamil Nadu, attributing it to an unprecedented response during campaigning. He predicted significant gains in Andhra Pradesh, where the BJP is allied with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party.

Regarding Karnataka and Telangana, Singh dismissed surveys indicating potential setbacks, asserting that the BJP’s position remains robust despite Congress governance in these states. He reaffirmed the BJP’s electoral prowess, anticipating an increase in seats.

Singh emphasized the diminishing relevance of the north-south divide, attributing it to Modi’s leadership and India’s enhanced global stature. He cited Modi’s credibility and achievements in strengthening national pride as factors contributing to the BJP’s electoral prospects across regions.

The BJP’s performance in the south has historically been modest, but Singh’s remarks signal a shift in strategy and confidence in expanding the party’s footprint beyond its traditional strongholds. As the nation awaits the final phase of voting and subsequent counting on June 4, Singh’s statements reflect the BJP’s ambitious electoral ambitions and optimism for success.
