Renowned Odia Music Director Swarup Nayak Passes Away

Bhubaneswar, 28th Oct. Swarup Nayak, a well-known Odia music director and lyricist, has passed away at his home in Cuttack after a long battle with illness, according to his family members.

At the age of 76, Nayak had been fighting throat cancer for several months, as disclosed on Friday.

Throughout his career, he composed music for 41 Odia films, including notable titles such as ‘Hira Nila’, ‘Bagula Baguli’, ‘Lal Paan Bibi’, ‘Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta’, and ‘Ki Heba Sua Posile’. Additionally, he had also worked as a lyricist in 30 of these films.

In a condolence message on X, CM Naveen Patnaik said: “Saddened to know about the demise of eminent music composer and lyricist Swarup Nayak. His lyrics and work will continue occupying a special place in the hearts of the listeners. Nayak will be remembered for his valuable contribution to Odia film industry. May his soul rest in peace.”

CM Patnaik also announced that he will be cremated on Saturday with full state honours.
